Who should I ask?
Match the question to the authority. Start with a general policy enquiry.
Medicine regulator / customs
Ask about generic ingredients, amount, packaging, documents and permits. Immigration clearance does not automatically authorise medicine import.
Your own embassy
Useful for consular support and understanding local procedures. It cannot authorise another country’s entry or guarantee how a foreign authority will handle your information.
HIV organisation / qualified adviser
A local HIV organisation or immigration adviser can help interpret rules and may make a general enquiry for you. Ask about confidentiality before sharing identifying details.
Does asking put me on a permanent blacklist?
We have not established a universal rule that a general question causes permanent blacklisting. We also cannot promise that an identified disclosure will be confidential or consequence-free. Authorities can retain and share information under their own rules.
For an initial general enquiry, avoid including a name, passport number, travel booking or personal diagnosis unless needed. Ask for the written policy and privacy notice first. A clinician or adviser can help you decide what is necessary. Formal applications must be answered truthfully; this is not advice to conceal information the law requires.
